Introduction: How Posters Shaped Society

Come on, boys! Do your duty by enlisting now!.jpg

A recruiting and enlistment poster created by Vojtěch Preissig in 1917.

During World War I, posters impacted how ideas were communicated more so than at any other time in history.  Vibrant designs and provacative messages gave posters the ability to not only shape the way people communicated, but to also capture, inspire, inform, and/or persuade their audiences.  The following posters represent just a fraction of those created in and around the World War I era (1914-1920) that played a role in shaping various aspects of everyday life(1914-1920).
